Workers might soon be protected from Europe’s increasingly high temperatures.

According to a draft directive seen by The Guardian, Europeans are calling for legislation that protects workers from extreme heat. Among other things, the plan proposes a maximum workplace temperature based on the wet bulb temperature. Roughly 15mn workers are represented by the unions calling for government action. The London Marathon is one of the most well-known events of its kind – over 1.3mn people entered the ballot for next year’s race through the city. Given the demand, organisers announced in June that the event would be held over two days, rather than one, for the first time in its history.
